Day 11: Clear labels make the world go ’round

In order to make those delicious holiday sugar cookies with icing that we all know and love, there need to be clear instructions for the baker.

The recipes need to be clearly written because those baking are rushing to make their sweet treats in time for all the festivities!

Just like in baking, when it comes to resumes, consistency is key. #punintended

As we know, employers are also moving very quickly to find their top candidates. Clearly labeling your section headers lets them understand exactly what they’re looking at, allowing them to continue on their merry way as they scan your resume!

Required section headers

  • Summary of qualifications
  • Skills
  • Education
  • Experience

Optional section headers

  • Career profile
  • Relevant courses
  • Campus and/or community involvement
  • Affiliations/honors/other activities
  • Training/certifications/professional memberships

Whether you label your sections “Awards & Achievements”, “Volunteer Experience”, or “Relevant Experience”, having clearly labeled section headers can help keep you in the running!
